When Mother Nature Claims Your Artwork

I lost my painting studio in my home and artwork on Sunday, August 10, 2025 to historic flooding in my town Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.

Wauwatosa, experienced historic, life-threatening flash flooding on August 10, 2025, following nearly 10 inches of rain, which was the heaviest rainfall in the area since the late 1800s. With the Menomonee River overflowing its banks the flooding inundated streets and basements, causing significant damage to over 500 homes and 50 businesses. The city is still in the recovery and cleanup phase, with damage to Hart Park being extensive, and FEMA has opened disaster recovery centers to assist affected residents.

I lost many things including my artwork, many lost more and others lost everything. My husband and I consider ourselves lucky, our spirits are humbled and filled with gratitude. Rebuilding my painting studio is a labor of love and extraordinary patience. This transition is precipitating a change in my approach to creating new works.

It’s weird to scroll to see recent works captured before the flood. I guess this is a bit of luck to have these images immortalized. Yet these paintings seem foreign and strange to me. Mother Nature has claimed them for her own. I would like to have a conversation with her but I’m guessing the line is long and I would need a bus ticket to find her.

Mixed Media Exploring

Experimenting is intrinsic to my art practice without the voice of judgement from myself or others. The

"I don't give a fuck let's paint " is my mantra for deep exploration to creating my paintings.

Ireland beats in my heart and blankets my soul. My husband's ancestry are Irish. We traveled by car. I drank in the beauty of this country and its people  and fell in love everyday and forever with John.

Fly fishing is about being invited by nature into her rivers and bowing to the fish that govern her waters. You are the pupil, You are the outlier. The Trout your masters.
